Jonathan Clark, son of John and Ann (Rogers) Clark, was born in Albemarle County, Virginia, 12 August 1750, and died in Jefferson County, Kentucky, 25 November 1811. During the Revolutionary War, Clark commanded a company in the Eighth Virginia Regiment. In 1779, he was promoted to Lt. Colonel in the Continental Army. He married Sarah Hite on 13 February 1782. James Taylor, the son of Col. James Taylor, was born on Apr. 19, 1769 in Caroline County, Virginia. He was educated at Rappahannock Academy.
